More Than Meets The Eye                                                                                      This pumpkin patch was sitting on the front lawn of a church in Woodbury Conn. and a familiar sight across the nation this time of year.  But these are no ordinary pumpkins, they are from New Mexico and were grown and distributed by the Navajo Nation. They apparently produce and sell pumpkins exclusively to non profit organizations to the benefit of all. Two thirds of the profits goes to the Navajo Nation for expenses and to pay workers and the remaining third to the non-profits. Additionally, according to one of the church members, these pumpkins seem to last longer than the home  grown variety. I will vouch for their above average symmetry. Maybe they last longer due to the New Mexican soil and sun or perhaps it’s due to being associated with a higher power. Whatever the case these pumpkins clearly benefit many including the buyers who get to enjoy a great Fall/Halloween season.   Read more about this great project at  http://www.navajotimes.com/business/2013/1013/101713pumpkins.php#.VCo0xfldW50

eat-to-thrive:

Homegrown “scarlet” runner beans. These are eaten whole, like any other green bean, but I wanted to slice them open for this photo to show the amazing colours the beans inside are! So pretty! They’re different colours simply because one (the purple one) is a little more mature than the other. 🌿 #scarletrunnerbeans #homegrown #organicgarden (at Sunshine Coast, BC)

amazing
